Welcome to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary school is situated in a quiet tree lined street in the Armadale / Toorak area providing for the individual needs of the students from Preparatory to Grade 6. It is a school that prides itself on its caring family atmosphere based on the Catholic ethos. The children are encouraged to care for others by understanding that they as individuals are cared for and valued for their qualities. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School is a community working together for the spiritual intellectual emotional physical moral and social development of our students. The focus of all efforts by members of this community is to make our school a safe place for learning. The Religious Education Program supports children to grow individually in relationship with God and to develop the skills Knowledge values and attitudes that enable them to take an active role in the faith community and the society that we prepare for them. Religious Education is concerned with the development of relationships asense of belonging and the teaching of Gospel values that are lived out in family friendships and the community.
The Curriculum Programs are based on beliefs and understandings best outlined by the following factors: • All children can achieve given sufficient time and support• Engaged learning time through small teacher groups• Structured teaching focused on the individual learning needs of students• High expectations of student achievement and early intervention• All teachers can teach to high standards given the right conditions and assistance• Solid teaching must be provided to set the foundation for all future learning and• Equip children with the necessary skills Knowledge understanding and attitudes to enable them to participate confidently in all aspects of their daily lives.
Inquiry-based approach to curriculum provision provides opportunities for students to explore investigate experiment and gather information in meaningful contexts. Inquiry-based learning involves a strong emphasis on student centered ACTive learning and on the process of investigation. The prior knowledge and experiences of the students are the starting point for investigations and students are encouraged to actively participate in determining ways in which they gather and process new ideas.
Information Communication Technology (ICT)
The use of technology is incorporated into all areas of the curriculum through the use of computers interactive Whiteboards and iPads. The students use these as tools to enhance their learning provide evidence of learning and to support their Rich Assessment Tasks.
