The Australian Catholic University Australian
Catholic University (ACU) is a public university funded by the
Australian Government and open to students and staff of all beliefs. We have six
campuses in Australia and offer programs throughout Australia and
overseas. Our students enjoy the benefits of small, friendly campuses
and small class sizes, and have direct access to highly qualified
lecturers and quality student support services. Our campuses are located
in Brisbane (Queensland), North Sydney and Strathfield, (New South
Wales), Canberra (ACT), Ballarat and Melbourne (Victoria). ACU has an
established reputation for quality and innovative teaching with
specialist undergraduate and postgraduate education in disciplines
including arts, business, business information systems, education,
educational leadership, environmental science, exercise science,
midwifery, music, nursing, paramedicine, psychology, philosophy, social
sciences, social work, theology, religious education and visual arts and
design. ACU is
dedicated to rigorous intellectual scholarship and the individual's
pursuit of truth and academic freedom. Its ethos is derived from
Christian values and the Catholic intellectual tradition, and our core
concern is with ethics in all fields of endeavour. In all its courses
the University empowers students with a strong sense of social
responsibility and concern for the moral and ethical dimensions of their
study and their professional and personal lives. Travelling
to a foreign country to study can be a challenge. At ACU we aim to
maximise your learning and development opportunities and eliminate
stress and anxiety. Campus life
staff support the development of a rich and vibrant community at ACU.
They help to organise special events, student support networks,
mentoring programs and social activities. Qualified
counsellors are available at each campus to offer free, confidential
advice. The counselling service provides practical advice on study,
finance and university procedures. Where necessary, they can also help
with stress management, grief, depression and relationship difficulties. Each campus
has a Disability Adviser who assists students who have educational needs
arising from a disability or long term medical condition. This service
is free. Students are encouraged to contact the Disability Adviser as
soon as possible, preferably before arrival in Australia, as it can take
time to arrange any necessary educational adjustments. English
Language Centres are run in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. We offer
programs to enable you to reach the English proficiency requirements for
entry to the University.
International students receive a comprehensive orientation program to
familiarise them with university procedures, Australian study methods
and social customs and culture. Campus tours and "welcome events" are
also part of the international student induction. Our
philosophy of pastoral care ensures students feel confident and secure
in Australia. International Student Advisers provide advice on enrolment
and course selection, assistance with visas, accommodation and finance. Ballarat Street
